Friend Garden docs¶
Every friend is a plant, and getting in touch waters it: how the garden works, from the first seedling to a backup.
These pages explain Friend Garden the way I'd explain it to a friend sitting next to me with their phone: what the screens are for, what the buttons do, and how the plants decide when they're thirsty. If you're new, read "What is Friend Garden?" first and then "Planting your garden", which is most of what you need to get going. The rest you can look up when you get to it. The page under "Under the hood" is for changing Friend Garden itself, and you only need it if you're working on the code.
Getting started¶
- What is Friend Garden? — what it does, who it's for, where it works and what stays on your device
Using Friend Garden¶
- Planting your garden — adding a friend, how often, picking a plant, groups, birthdays, the sample garden and editing
- Keeping in touch — Today, "We talked", watering, the note for next time, the history and the watering list
- The plants — the eight plants, how they grow, when they get thirsty, and the garden at dusk
Your data¶
- Your garden's data — where it lives, backups, birthdays in your calendar, the Home Screen and starting over
Under the hood¶
- Developing — the files, how the plants are drawn, the tests and deploying
Something wrong, or missing?¶
If something doesn't work the way these pages say, or you'd like Friend Garden to do something it doesn't, open an issue on the GitHub repo (https://github.com/franz-rosenzweig/friend-garden) and say what you did and what happened. A screenshot helps a lot, and the sample garden is handy for that, because everyone in it is made up.
